free concert 4 part harmony

Summer Fridays at the Ohio Statehouse started off with barbershop harmony.  You can hear some at this link:

The Alliance was really good and drew a big crowd.

Summer Fridays continues all summer, every Friday at noon.  Different preformers every week...And it's free!

S American lunch

Here’s what I had for lunch:  Bandeja Paisa, which is rice, pinto beans, pork, shredded beef, fried plantains, fried egg & arepitas (deep fried corn meal) for $9.  Pretty expensive for lunch, but it was so much food, I didn’t have to eat much dinner.  I’m not sure if you’re supposed to mix it all together, or what, so I combined several items on each fork full.

The mild cilantro sauce added flavor, but I didn’t put it on the plantains.  Those were like sweet potatoes.

pearl market 06-09-2009

I had to walk through the Pearl Alley Market (Tuesday and Friday) to get to El Arepazo http://www.elarepazolatingrill.com/, a Venezualian restaurant.  They have remodeled since the last time I went, and it’s a great improvement.  I recommend it, but I’d rather have Korean Bimi Bap.

Our future may/may not be Star Trek

Star Trek is now a movie...that people want to see!  Does that make it better or worse?  I haven't seen it, so I can't say.

P.S. I'm watching an extremely earnest TV show that is imagining the future with global warming.  Aparently it will involve people sitting inside UN meeting rooms a lot.  That's probably closer to our future than Star Trek.

Anyways, check out this blog link:

http://www.marksimonson.com/article/262/changeling-cast-in-star-trek

It reveals somethng about...

P.S.  The TV show just admited that humans are incredibly adaptible, which has allowed us to evolve and "conquer the earth."  Unfortunately, "That adaptability is a real threat to our existence," because like a frog in boiling water, we won't realize we're done for until it's too too late.  WAIT--I thought adaptablibity and evolving meant survival of the fittest.  I'M CONFUSED HERE.

OK the blog is not really a spoiler, but the designer realized that his own font was used in the Starship Enterprise.  Sort of cool.

If you are interested in fonts and the history of typography, this is a great blog.  This entry is on my list of all time great blogs:  THE SCOURGE OF ARIAL (!)  http://www.ms-studio.com/articles.html

P.S.  Back on the TV show, I'm wondering where I've seen such poorly made indoctrination before.  Hmmm, could it be in the Christian community?  "It was a bad omen to the rest of us," says the narrator.

reverence the sinner

It's been said, you should love others as yourself. Here's a a quote by Caryll Houselander that can help if you have trouble with that:

I saw too the reverence that everyone must have for a sinner;
instead of condoning his sin, which is in reality his utmost sorrow, one must

comfort Christ who is suffering in him.

And this reverence must be paid even to those sinners whose souls seem to be dead, because

it is Christ, who is the life of the soul, who is dead in them; they are His tombs,

and Christ in the tomb is potentially the risen Christ. For the same reason, no one of us who has fallen into mortal sin himself must ever lose hope.

Hat tip to Mystagogia

OK, so the quote is a little catholic. Maybe you don't believe that Christ is currently suffering, or currently dead. But do you get the point?
